Exploring the Andes: Mountains and People of the High Altiplano and Lake Titicaca

Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro

It’s time to stop dreaming about South America. Embark is ready to take you to its heart, Bolivia, as we explore one of the continents only landlocked countries, from its deepest valleys and colorful cityscapes to its highest peaks.

After meeting in Peru’s largest airport in the capital city of Lima, we fly up to Lake Titicaca on the eastern border with Bolivia and adjust to both the higher altitude and the southern hemisphere as we explore the lake’s floating islands and the people who have inhabited them for thousands of years.

Winding our way down to Bolivia’s capital city, La Paz, and enjoying free time in open-air markets and along archaeological sites, we soon leave city life behind and trek deep into the mountains, where the stars have a dazzling quality and angle unique to the southern hemisphere. Hikers and trekkers alike can enjoy a wide range of climbing grades as local guides and porters help us reach new heights, find new meanings, and still eat like kings.
