Ballooning out over 105,000 acres of alpine wonderland, there is a point between mid-July and mid-August where the Goat Rocks Wilderness is navigable, and the wait is well worth your while. In just four days of trekking, traverse 30 miles along Cispus Basin in this series of volcanic peaks that rise up out of Oregon’s Cascade Mountain Range.
The Goat Rocks, named after the many mountain goats that inhabit the region, comprise the core of the Goat Rocks Wilderness that lies between Mount Adams and Mount Rainier. Trek through the flowers that color the low meadows of Snowgrass Flats; traverse giant glaciers packed with snow even in the heat of summer; and dare to dip your toes in the chilly blue streams that rush down from the high ridge line as you take in the spectacular scenery that stretches out before you.
