Island Peak

Island Peak

Explore the sunny valleys, charming villages, and lower elevation treks that weave through the Khumbu region’s legendary pyramids of snow and ice. Discover the extraordinary intersection of Nepalese and Tibetan cultures as you navigate nearby villages, including a rest day in the enchanting Dingboche, which boasts Buddhist shrines and Internet cafés alike. Tibet’s Island Peak – named two years before its first ascent by Eric Shipton’s party, which described the mountain as an island in a sea of ice – offers a challenging but safe summit in just five days, and has a reputation for attracting beginner and expert climbers alike as the more experienced warm up for the neighboring Himalayan Giants, including Mt Everest. Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse, is perhaps best known for its rewarding summit, with some of the region’s most expansive views of one of the world’s largest ice walls and several nearby peaks, including the breathtaking Ama Dablam, Makalu, and Lhotse.
