Summit the highest point in all of Mexico and third highest in North America (after Denali and Mount Logan) – whose shape dates back at least 2.5 million years – in a high-altitude challenge ideal for the beginner and intermediate climber alike.
El Pico de Orizaba, also known as Chitlalcotepetl, or “Star Mountain” (18,850 feet), soars out of a cluster of jagged volcanoes perched in the heart of Mexico about 800 miles south of the US border, not far from the historic city of Puebla. This is one of the few truly first-rate volcanoes so close to the US, an excellent opportunity to travel fewer hours, spend fewer pesos, bypass fewer crevasses, and yet still reap the benefits of going for the summit of a lifetime.
Trip Highlights
- Climb one of the highest points in North America with no technical equipment
- It's close enough to home! Experience as little as one week in Mexico on this epic adventure
- Climbing Orizaba is great training for other mountains around the world
